Catalytic Projects
Promoting economic development and investment opportunities through catalytic projects in public-private partnerships.

The eThekwini Municipality is rolling out a large-scale spatial transformation projects in partnership with the private sector. The investment value for these projects are usually more than R500million and they contribute substantially to job creation and economic growth in the region.

EThekwini is poised for massive economic growth from several catalytic projects that are underway and progressing well. They are earmarked to boost the Municipality’s rates base, transform the local spatial footprint, and create many employment and business opportunities.

Known for their socio-economic impact, these projects are usually based on key national routes and previously disadvantaged township areas. Fast-tracking their implementation is the biggest programme which the city, business, and other tiers of government can implement to generate revenue and create jobs. This focus on investment, construction, and infrastructure development is in keeping with National Government’s focus on infrastructure and investment development in the 2021 State of the Nation and Budget Speech addresses. It is seen as a key driver of economic recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic.
