ARTICULATE AFRICA 2026 LEAVES LASTING IMPACT THROUGH DIALOGUE, ART, CREATIVITY AND TRANSFORMATION

The 2026 edition of Articulate Africa officially ended yesterday 20 May, marking the end of a vibrant and thought-provoking week that brought together creatives, academics, writers, activists, cultural practitioners and members of the public in celebration of African storytelling, dialogue and artistic expression.

Attendees gathered for a three-day rich programme filled with robust deliberations, engaging panel discussions, art displays, networking opportunities, live performances and literary engagements that explored pressing social issues while celebrating African identity and creativity.

Throughout the week, Articulate Africa created a meaningful platform for conversations around culture, language, heritage, gender, literature, identity, social cohesion and empowerment. The programme attracted respected thought leaders, artists and authors who used their voices and expertise to inspire, educate and challenge audiences.

The closing day programme carried the momentum with impactful discussions centred on healing, financial freedom and education.

Conversations also explored love beyond borders, unpacking the realities and dynamics of multiracial relationships in modern society. Another compelling discussion focused on the power of the pen in addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV), highlighting the important role writers, journalists and creatives play in changing harmful narratives and driving social transformation.

The festival concluded on a powerful and reflective note with the outdoor film screening, titled, SOLITARY, a significant project supported by Durban Film Office. The film is written and produced by a local film-maker Nhlanhla Phakathi.

Senior Manager for city’s Libraries and Heritage Tebogo Mzizi applauded the overwhelming support from participants, speakers, exhibitors, performers and members of the public who contributed to this year’s edition of Articulate Africa a successful and impactful event.

Articulate Africa continues to position itself as an important platform for intellectual engagement, artistic excellence and cultural exchange on the African continent.
