BAFANA BAFANA RECEIVES WARM WELCOME AS DURBAN GEARS UP FOR INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY

Durban is abuzz with excitement as the South African national football team, Bafana Bafana, received a warm and enthusiastic welcome today, 26 March, at King Shaka International Airport.

Supporters gathered in large numbers, waving flags, singing, and chanting in celebration as the team arrived ahead of their international friendly against Panama, taking place tomorrow, 27 March, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Kickoff is at 7pm.

The atmosphere at the airport this afternoon was electric, reflecting the passion and support of the Durban community.

South African Football Association (SAFA) CEO, Danny Jordaan, expressed his gratitude for the reception, noting that the energy from supporters will serve as added motivation ahead of the highly anticipated match.

This marks Bafana Bafana’s return to Durban in less than six months, following their match against Zimbabwe for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier held at Moses Mabhida Stadium in October last year.

Tomorrow’s friendly against Panama forms part of the team’s ongoing preparations for upcoming continental and international tournaments.

City’s State Of Readiness

The City has confirmed its readiness to host the international friendly, which is expected to attract thousands of football enthusiasts.

Comprehensive preparations have been completed to ensure a safe, secure, and world-class experience for all spectators.

While no road closures have been confirmed, Durban Metro Police has advised that heavy traffic is expected, particularly as the match coincides with other major sporting events in the City.

Key routes, including Masabalala Yengwa Avenue and surrounding intersections, will be under increased monitoring.

Spectators are encouraged to arrive early to allow sufficient time for parking, security screening, and seating.

In addition, patrons are urged to make use of the street litter bins provided throughout the precinct to support the City’s commitment to maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.

The City remains committed to delivering successful sporting events that position Durban as a premier destination for sport and entertainment.
