FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BLITZ PROGRAMME ACCELERATES SERVICE DELIVERY ACROSS PUBLIC SPACES

The City’s Recreation and Parks Directorate has intensified service delivery efforts through an accelerated programme called ‘The Blitz’, aimed at clearing overgrown vegetation, including trees, and improving the condition of public spaces and major road networks across eThekwini.

The initiative forms part of the Municipality’s broader commitment to ensure that public spaces remain safe, clean, and welcoming for residents and visitors.

The latest operation was rolled out in the south of Durban, where teams were deployed to several major roads and arterial routes to extensively prune trees and overhanging branches.

The work has significantly improved visibility and accessibility along these routes, making roads safer and easier to navigate for motorists, pedestrians, and public transport operators.

As a result of the operation, previously overgrown areas have been restored, with roads cleared of obstructive branches and vegetation.

The programme is expected to improve the overall appearance of neighbourhoods, preserve greenery, and prevent hanging branches from posing hazards to the public.

The Blitz programme will continue to be rolled out across different parts of the City to ensure that public spaces are well maintained.

The Recreation and Parks Directorate encourages residents to support these efforts by helping to protect and maintain public spaces, and by reporting areas that may require urgent attention.
