CITY AWARDS 111 BENEFICIARIES WITH GRANT-IN-AID FUNDING

The eThekwini Municipality continues its efforts to uplift communities by awarding Grant-in-Aid funding to 111 beneficiaries, amounting to R5.5 million for the 2025/2026 financial year.

The recipients include non-governmental organisations (NGOs), non-profit organisations (NPOs), and civil society organisations that play a vital role in improving the lives of residents.

Speaking at the award ceremony held on 03 June 2026 at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC), Chairperson of the Community Services Committee, Councillor Zama Sokhabase, said the initiative demonstrates the City’s ongoing commitment to community development.

“Grant-in-Aid funding provides essential financial support to organisations working directly within communities.

Over the past three years, approximately R18 million has been allocated to support NPOs, benefiting about 333 organisations through the Sundry Grant-in-Aid programme.

These organisations operate across various sectors, including Early Childhood Development (ECD), social welfare, sport, arts and culture, economic development, skills development, and faith-based initiatives,” she said.

Councillor Sokhabase noted that the funding enables organisations to respond effectively to the diverse needs of communities.

“We are encouraged by the Municipality’s ability to support civil society organisations, empowering them to implement meaningful interventions that positively impact residents’ lives,” she added.

The Municipality encourages eligible organisations to apply for Grant-in-Aid funding for the 2026/2027 financial year.

Applications opened on 1 June 2026 and will close on 31 July 2026.

Applications are open to registered organisations that meet the requirements outlined in the Grant-in-Aid policy.

Organisations involved in sport, early childhood development, culture and recreation, economic development, social welfare, skills development, and religious or faith-based activities may be considered for funding.

Application forms are available on the Municipality’s website at www.durban.gov.za, as well as at the SCDD office located at 26 Mathews Meyiwa Road (Old Stamford Hill Road), Greyville (6th Floor), Councillors’ offices, and SCDD regional offices.
