CITY EQUIPS LEARNERS FOR SUCCESS FOLLOWING 100 PERCENT PASS RATE

In recognition of academic excellence, eThekwini Municipality today, 16 February, donated school essentials to more than 40 underprivileged learners at Sithokozile Secondary School, including uniforms, school shoes, stationery, and toiletries.

These essential supplies will ensure that learners begin the 2026 academic year equipped, confident, and ready to excel.

The school’s outstanding 100 percent pass rate for the 2025 academic year set the tone for a celebratory and impactful Back-to-School campaign in KwaDabeka this morning.

During the school assembly, Municipal officials emphasised the importance of encouraging learners to perform at their best, abstain from substance abuse, and use education as a tool to uplift themselves.

Community Services Committee Chairperson, Councillor Zama Sokhabase, commended the school for its academic excellence and highlighted the City’s ongoing support initiatives.

She confirmed that the City will continue to host and strengthen the annual Mayoral Matric Awards.

These awards recognise the top 10 achievers from various schools who obtain five or more distinctions in their matric year.

Award recipients receive:

▪ A full university bursary for the duration of their studies

▪ A laptop and data for academic use

▪ A monthly stipend of R5 000

Councillor Sokhabase added: “The Municipality has various youth development programmes aimed at nurturing talent, advancing education, and supporting entrepreneurship. However, as young people, we also have a responsibility to play our part and seize these opportunities.”

Mayoral Youth Development Office Manager Nokuthula Hlophe confirmed that the Back-to-School campaign will continue across the City as learners commence the 2026 academic year.
