CITY INTENSIFIES ENFORCEMENT DRIVE ACROSS ETHEKWINI
The eThekwini Municipality, through the Durban Metro Police Service (DMPS), has intensified law enforcement operations across eThekwini over the past week, with a series of intelligence-led actions targeting drug dealing, theft, unlawful structures and non-compliance with municipal bylaws.
In the Southern Region, daily clean-up and bylaw enforcement operations in Umlazi and Clairwood resulted in the demolition of eight illegally erected structures and the arrest of four foreign nationals who were unable to produce documentation authorising their presence in the country.
They were detained at Montclair South African Police Service (SAPS) station.
Three separate drug operations conducted between 24 and 27 August removed narcotics with an estimated street value of more than R56 000 from communities.
In Phoenix, officers executing a search warrant seized suspected crack cocaine, high-grade dagga and cash, while a second operation on the N2/M25 offramp led to the arrest of a 67-year-old man found with 800 heroin capsules.
A third arrest in Phoenix followed the recovery of 100 pieces of suspected rock cocaine.
Two men aged 38 and 33 were also arrested on 26 August in Wiltshire Road for the suspected attempted theft of diesel, after trucks were reported to have deviated from authorised routes.
On 21 August, DMPS joined SAPS and other stakeholders in a search operation at Eric Mtshali Secondary School in Pinetown, where approximately 500 learners were screened and prohibited items confiscated.
Stop-and-search operations were further conducted along Gillespie Street in the Point precinct to strengthen visibility and bylaw compliance.
These initiatives form part of the City's efforts to curb crime, strengthen cohesion with communities and other law enforcement agencies, and restore the rule of law across the municipality.
Residents are urged to report illegal or suspicious activity in their communities to the South Africa Police Service or to the DMPS on 031 361 0000.
