CITY INVESTIGATES VIRAL VIDEO OF OFFICIAL SWEEPING LITTER INTO STORM DRAIN
EThekwini Municipality is aware of a video circulating on social media showing a City official sweeping litter into a stormwater drainage system.
We take this matter seriously and have initiated an internal investigation into the conduct of the official concerned.
Internal processes will be followed to ensure procedural fairness for all parties involved.
The City strongly condemns this behaviour because improper disposal of waste into stormwater drains negatively impact the environment by polluting waterways and harming ecosystems.
The City remains committed to upholding proper waste management practices and protecting our natural resources.
Appropriate corrective measures will be implemented based on the outcome of the investigation.
Members of the public are encouraged to report any misconduct by City employees anonymously to the City Integrity and Investigation Directorate by calling the toll-free line 0800 20 20 20.
