DAY TWO OF ARTICULATE AFRICA IGNITES ROBUST DIALOGUE ON CULTURE, IDENTITY AND SOCIAL ISSUES
The second day of the Articulate Africa Programme, held today, 19 May, at the Durban Exhibition Centre delivered another powerful and thought-provoking platform for dialogue, storytelling, literature, and artistic expression.
Audiences engaged with some of South Africa’s most respected cultural figures, writers, academics, and performers.
Day two featured impactful panel discussions and book talks led by distinguished icons, including renowned playwright and founder of the KwaMashu Community Advancement Projects, Dr Edmund Mhlongo; cultural scholar Dr Ashantewaa Ngidi; actress and author Ayanda Borotho; celebrated writer Dudu Busani; Dr Nakanjani Sibiya; and several other respected voices in literature, media, and the arts.
The programme opened with engaging culinary conversations exploring the significance of African cuisine and the preservation of heritage through food.
Discussions later transitioned into deeper social and cultural themes that captivated audiences throughout the day.
Key topics included cultural identity and pride in post-apartheid South Africa, the challenges and responsibilities of raising men in modern society, conversations around polygamy and LGBTQI issues, and the evolving role of journalism and social media in shaping public discourse and preserving African narratives.
The sessions created a vibrant platform for honest engagement, reflection, and the exchange of ideas, with speakers encouraging society to embrace dialogue as a tool for nation-building and cultural preservation.
Beyond the discussions, the atmosphere at Articulate Africa was enriched by poetry, live music, dramatic performances, and artistic showcases reflecting the diversity and vibrancy of African creativity.
Articulate Africa continues to position itself as an important cultural platform, bringing together creatives, intellectuals, authors, performers, and communities to celebrate African excellence while tackling critical social issues affecting society today.
The three-day programme concludes tomorrow with more engaging sessions, exhibitions, performances, and interactive discussions expected to attract audiences from across the province and beyond.
