DURBAN METRO POLICE ARREST 324 DRUNK DRIVERS
Durban Metro Police, in partnership with the South African Police Service and the Road Traffic Inspectorate, conducted intensive integrated roadblock operations across the City this past weekend.
The initiative followed a series of serious road accidents, many of which were linked to drunk driving, negligent driving, and unroadworthy vehicles.
A total of 324 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The highest recorded alcohol reading was 3.67, a level considered extremely dangerous.
Authorities emphasised that this level of recklessness endangers not only the driver but also passengers, pedestrians, and all other road users.
Durban Metro Police reiterated their commitment to enforcing traffic and criminal regulations.
The weekend operations coincided with major sporting events that contributed to increased traffic volumes.
Law enforcement agencies were strategically deployed to safeguard residents and visitors, demonstrating Metro Police’s unwavering focus on road safety.
Their heightened presence aimed to reduce the risk of accidents and ensure public safety.
Durban Metro Police have reaffirmed that similar operations will continue.
Motorists are urged to act responsibly, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, and avoid driving under the influence.
