ETHEKWINI NEWSFLASH

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FINAL CALL FOR PUBLIC COMMENT ON DRAFT ANNUAL REPORT AS DEADLINE LOOMS

EThekwini residents have until Friday, 6 March 2026, to influence how the City improves its performance and advances organisational excellence and long-term sustainability.

The Municipality is calling on all residents to make their voices heard by submitting comments on the Draft Annual Report 2024/25.

Public input will help chart a sustainable and accountable path forward for the City.

This is a critical opportunity for communities to shape the Municipality’s performance direction and contribute meaningfully to its pursuit of service excellence.

EThekwini Council Speaker Councillor Thabani Nyawose has encouraged residents to submit their inputs before the deadline to ensure the final report reflects the priorities of the people it serves.

“The Annual Report is our commitment to honesty, accountability, and improved service delivery, but its true strength lies in the voices of our residents,” he said.

Councillor Nyawose added that community input drives transparency, strengthens financial sustainability, and ensures that Municipal decisions serve the people of eThekwini.

“I encourage every resident to speak up and contribute toward building a successful Municipality that is built with its people,” he said.

Over the past several weeks, the Municipality has conducted extensive public consultations across all regions, creating open and transparent platforms for communities to engage with the Draft Annual Report.

These engagements have enabled residents to reflect on the City’s performance during the past financial year, interrogate service delivery challenges, and propose practical solutions to strengthen Municipal programmes.

The feedback received to date highlights the vital role communities play in holding the Municipality accountable and guiding continuous improvement.

The Draft Annual Report remains one of local government’s most important accountability tools.

It outlines how public resources have been managed, progress made on key development commitments, and the effectiveness of service delivery across departments.

Public participation ensures that Municipal oversight is not only driven by legislative structures but is also meaningfully shaped by the lived experiences and insights of residents.

Each comment submitted helps refine Municipal priorities and informs decisions aimed at strengthening performance, responsiveness, and overall service delivery.

Community input directly contributes to building a more transparent, people-centred, and future-focused Municipality.

With the deadline fast approaching, the Municipality urges all residents to seize this final opportunity to contribute to a stronger and more accountable city.

The report is available online at www.durban.gov.za, as well as at Sizakala Centres and Municipal libraries across Durban.
