FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INKOSI ALBERT LUTHULI INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTRE NAMED AFRICA'S LEADING MEETINGS AND CONFERENCE CENTRE FOR 21ST TIME

The Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre International Convention Centre has been named Africa's Leading Meetings and Conference Centre for a record 21st time, at the World Travel Awards Africa and Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony held on Friday, 28 August in Zanzibar, reaffirming Durban's standing as the continent's premier business events and tourism destination.

Widely regarded as the "Oscars of the travel and tourism industry", the award recognises excellence in service, innovation, customer experience and leadership across the global tourism and hospitality sector. Since the category was introduced in 2000, the ICC has claimed the title 21 times, a record unmatched on the continent.

Opened in 1997, the ICC has built an international reputation for hosting world-class conferences, exhibitions and corporate events, contributing significantly to tourism, investment and job creation in Durban and KwaZulu-Natal.

EThekwini Municipality Mayor, Councillor Cyril Xaba, congratulated the ICC's board and management, saying the accolade demonstrates sound leadership.

"Recognition at the highest levels such as this is what makes Durban a preferred destination for meetings, leisure and entertainment. We urge our team not to take their foot off the pedal, but to continue raising the bar and making us proud," said Xaba.

Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre Chief Executive Officer, Lindiwe Rakharebe, said the recognition reflects the organisation's enduring commitment to excellence.

"Being recognised as Africa's Leading Meetings and Conference Centre for the twenty-first time is both a tremendous honour and a powerful affirmation of our commitment to excellence. This achievement belongs to our dedicated team and valued partners who consistently help us deliver world-class experiences to clients and delegates from around the globe," said Rakharebe.

The award reinforces the value of collaboration between government, tourism authorities and the private sector in growing Durban's visitor economy and attracting further international conferences.
