FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JONSSON WORKWEAR DURBAN OPEN REDUCED TO 54 HOLES DUE TO SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS
The Jonsson Workwear Durban Open, currently underway at the Durban Country Club, has been reduced to 54 holes following heavy overnight rainfall that rendered parts of the course unplayable.
More than 100mm of rain fell within a short period, significantly impacting several areas of the course and making it impossible to commence the third round as scheduled for today.
Tournament officials, in consultation with the Sunshine Tour and course management, took the decision to reduce the holes to 54 in the interest of player safety and course preservation.
The third round will now serve as the final round of the tournament and is scheduled to commence at 06h20 tomorrow, 22 February, weather permitting.
EThekwini Municipality has swiftly deployed its resources in coordination with Durban Country Club management and course staff to implement extensive drainage measures.
These efforts will continue to ensure the course is restored to optimal playing conditions ahead of the final round.
Through 36 holes, Christofer Blomstrand of Sweden and Santiago Tarrio of Spain are tied at the top of the leaderboard on 13-under-par, one stroke ahead of England’s Alfie Plant, setting up an exciting conclusion to the championship.
The City remains committed to supporting the successful delivery of this prestigious international tournament and appreciates the understanding of players, partners, and spectators as weather-related adjustments are implemented.
Further updates will be communicated as necessary.
