MAYOR XABA TO LEAD CALL TO END TB AT NTUZUMA COMMEMORATION
EThekwini Mayor Councillor Cyril Xaba, in his capacity as Chairperson of the eThekwini District AIDS Council, will tomorrow lead the World TB Day commemoration.
This year’s commemoration is held under the global theme: “Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver,” which calls for strengthened efforts to eliminate tuberculosis (TB) through sustained commitment, increased investment, and accelerated delivery of essential services.
The event aims to raise awareness about the ongoing impact of TB, promote early detection and treatment, and encourage communities to play an active role in preventing the spread of the disease.
World TB Day is observed annually to highlight the health, social, and economic impact of the disease, while mobilising political and community commitment towards ending the epidemic.
Despite being preventable and curable, TB remains one of the leading causes of death globally, with South Africa among the countries most affected.
The Municipality continues to work closely with health stakeholders and communities to strengthen TB prevention, improve access to treatment, and support those affected.
Members of the media are invited to attend the commemoration.
Event details are as follows:
* Date: Wednesday, 25 March
* Time: 09:00
* Venue: Ntuzuma A-Section Community Hall
