MAYOR XABA WELCOMES NEW HEAD OF NPA
EThekwini Mayor Councillor Cyril Xaba has welcomed the appointment of Advocate Andy Mothibi as the new Head of the National Prosecuting Authority( NPA).
“We are pleased that Advocate Mothibi brings to the NPA a wealth of experience, having investigated corruption in government and exposed how the private sector networks undermined state systems for their benefit,” said Mayor Xaba.
The Mayor added that through Mothibi’s meticulous investigations, government was able to recover billions of rands diverted from service delivery and stopped corrupt deals that were further milking the system.
“He prosecuted a number of cases while serving in the NPA. The Madlanga Commission has exposed the police’s implicit involvement in criminal activity and duplicity in their attempt to cover their tracks.”
Mayor Xaba added: “The nation pins its hope on him to ensure that cases which were buried will be uncovered and prosecuted, and that all matters he investigated will receive expeditious attention and closure. We look to him to inspire public confidence in the justice system and restore hope.”
