NEW MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEE CLINIC SET TO BOOST SERVICE DELIVERY FOR COMMUNITIES

Communities across eThekwini are set to benefit from faster, more reliable and more efficient Municipal services following today’s unveiling of the new Canehaven Occupational Health and Safety Employee Clinic in Phoenix.

By prioritising the health and safety of its workforce, the Municipality is directly strengthening the frontline teams responsible for maintaining infrastructure, responding to service faults, and delivering the essential services residents rely on daily.

The modern, fully equipped clinic marks a significant investment in ensuring that the City’s employees remain healthy, supported and able to perform their duties at the highest standard.

The Municipality recognises that when employees receive proper occupational health care, communities receive better service, from quicker turnaround times on repairs to improved customer responsiveness and reduced service delays.

Chairperson of the Governance and Human Resources Committee, Councillor Nkosenhle Madlala, said the clinic demonstrates how much the City values both its workforce and the communities they serve.

“The Municipality has more than 28 000 Municipal employees who carry out the essential work that keeps our City functioning, thus we have a duty, both moral and legal, to ensure that the health and safety of our employees remain a central priority,” he said.

Councillor Madlala added that eThekwini is a caring Municipality not only for residents, but for employees as well, stating that strong service delivery begins with a strong workforce.

“When employees are physically healthy, emotionally supported and mentally well, they are better positioned to deliver services that are faster, more consistent and of a higher quality,” he said

The new facility offers medical surveillance, workplace injury management, health assessments and preventative care.

Bringing these services closer to employees reduces absenteeism, accelerates recovery and supports quicker responses to community needs.

The Canehaven Clinic joins seven other Occupational Health and Safety clinics operating across eThekwini, a clear indication of a growing network of support designed to build a capable, high‑performing workforce committed to delivering reliable, quality Municipal services.

The Executive Director of Corporate Services Kim Makhathini echoed this commitment.

“Occupational health services play a vital role in safeguarding our workforce and that their wellness is central to the Municipality’s ability to deliver quality services.”

By investing in employee wellbeing, eThekwini is strengthening its ability to serve its communities with excellence.
