FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RISK OF POWER INTERRUPTIONS FOR NTUZUMA AND SURROUNDING AREAS

The eThekwini Municipality advises residents supplied by the Ntuzuma Substation of a risk of power interruptions following a suspected transformer relay failure detected early this morning.

Teams from the Energy Management Directorate were immediately dispatched to investigate; however, access to the substation was not possible due to protest action in the area. For safety reasons, teams were advised by authorities to leave the area.

To prevent possible major damage to the substation infrastructure, the affected transformer has been temporarily taken out of service. The substation is currently operating with only one transformer, which requires load reduction measures to ensure safe operation.

As a result, customers may experience planned power interruptions in two-hour intervals between 3pm and 11pm today.

Areas that may be affected include:

Amatikwe South, Bester, Bhambayi West, Dubes Land West, Ekuphakameni, Emachobeni, Emaplazini, Embokodwe, Ezimangweni, Inanda Glebe, Inanda -A & B, Kwamashu (A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,J,K,L,M,N,P), Lindelani-D, Lindley, Mshayazafe, Newtown-B, Nhlungwane,Ntuzuma(A,B,E,E,F,G,H), Phola Mission East, Siyanda and Soweto.
