MEDIA ADVISORY

SOUTH AFRICAN TOURISM TO LAUNCH 2026 TOURISM MONTH CAMPAIGN IN DURBAN

Members of the media are invited to the official media launch of the 2026 Tourism Month campaign, taking place in Durban on Thursday, 13 August 2026.

South African Tourism, in partnership with the Limpopo Tourism Agency, Durban Tourism and provincial tourism authorities, will officially launch the 2026 Tourism Month campaign, which aims to inspire South Africans to explore the country, discover local destinations and experiences, and contribute to the growth of domestic tourism.

The campaign will place a spotlight on the "Sho't Left" concept, encouraging South Africans to take short trips and getaways while discovering the diverse tourism experiences available across the country.

Aligned with the 2026 World Tourism Day theme, "Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism", this year's Tourism Month campaign will also highlight the growing role of digital innovation and artificial intelligence in creating a smarter, more inclusive, accessible and sustainable tourism sector.

Under the localised theme, "Growing South Africa's Tourism Sector in the Digital Era", Tourism Month will showcase how technology and innovation can enhance the visitor experience, support tourism businesses and unlock new opportunities for communities across South Africa.

The campaign will also highlight the contribution of tourism to economic growth, job creation, entrepreneurship and community development, while encouraging South Africans to play an active role in supporting the sector by travelling locally.

Tourism Month will culminate in the national celebration of World Tourism Day on 27 September 2026, providing an opportunity to showcase South Africa's tourism offering and reflect on the future of the sector in an increasingly digital world.
