UPDATE ON MAHATMA GANDHI WASTEWATER PUMP STATION REPAIR WORKS
The City’s sanitation teams have made significant progress in restoring operations at the Mahatma Gandhi Wastewater Pump Station following the recent technical failure.
The Municipality can confirm that all screening systems have now been successfully installed and commissioned.
In addition, three of the station’s four pumps have been repaired and brought back into operation.
The commissioning of the three pumps has restored the station’s pumping capacity to a level that has effectively stopped sewer overflows previously experienced.
Work is currently underway to complete repairs to the fourth and final pump.
The Municipality anticipates that this pump will be commissioned during June as soon as repair works are finalised.
The City continues to closely monitor the operation of the pump station to ensure system stability and optimal performance while the remaining work is completed.
As part of a long-term solution, the Municipality will undertake a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade project at the Mahatma Gandhi Wastewater Pump Station.
The project will address historical design and operational challenges identified through technical investigations and engineering assessments to enhance reliability, and efficiency of the facility.
The Municipality thanks residents, businesses, and stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during this period and apologises for the inconvenience caused.
