FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

VISITORS PRAISE DURBAN’S ENHANCED SAFETY MEASURES THIS EASTER

EThekwini Municipality Mayor, Councillor Cyril Xaba, today led a safety walkabout along the Durban beachfront to assess security measures in place and engage directly with holidaymakers from across South Africa and abroad.

Visitors commended the heightened police visibility and expressed confidence in the city’s safety arrangements.

To date, no major incidents of crime or drownings have been reported.

Mayor Xaba said: “I have no doubt that we will enjoy a successful and memorable holiday experience. We are expecting 1.2 million visitors to Durban, and at the end of the season we will release figures on how we have fared in achieving this target.”

The Mayor confirmed that 1,000 police officers have been deployed to safeguard visitors at entertainment venues, places of worship, and other popular attractions. He emphasised that the city remains committed to maintaining its reputation as a premier tourist destination.

“We are working closely with the private sector to expand tourism offerings, ensuring that visitors not only feel safe but are encouraged to stay longer and experience more of what Durban has to offer,” Xaba added.
