ETHEKWINI NEWSFLASH
PUBLIC NOTICE
31 JULY 2026
The eThekwini Municipality wishes to inform residents about the interruption of water supply in parts of Umlazi, Ensimbini and Folweni due to a suspected restriction on the Southern Aqueduct, which supplies the Umlazi–Golokodo Bulk Water Supply System.
The suspected restriction has resulted in reduced inflows to several reservoirs, preventing them from recovering overnight and leaving storage levels critically low.
This has affected the distribution of water to several communities.
Technical teams from Water Operations in the South and Central Regions are on site conducting a comprehensive investigation to identify the cause of the restriction.
Every effort is being made to diagnose the problem and implement the necessary remedial measures as quickly as possible.
At this stage, the exact cause of the interruption is still under investigation, and it is therefore not yet possible to provide a confirmed timeframe for the restoration of normal water supply.
Residents will be kept informed as more information becomes available.
Water tankers will be dispatched to the affected communities to provide temporary relief while the investigation and repair work continue.

• Umlazi 1/1A Reservoir: Umlazi A, B, C, D, E, F, V, S and T Sections
